Registration is now open for the International Cotton Advisory Committee’s 84th Plenary Meeting, which will take place from 24 to 26 March 2027 in Alexandria, Egypt. The conference will address climate resilience, technological developments, sustainability and competitiveness across the global cotton and textile value chain.

The International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) has opened registration for its 84th Plenary Meeting, scheduled for 24–26 March 2027 at the Rixos Montaza Alexandria Resort in Egypt.

Under the theme “Building a Resilient and Competitive Future for Cotton and Textiles”, the three-day conference will bring together representatives from across the international cotton and textile industries to discuss current challenges, emerging technologies and opportunities for cooperation.

Climate resilience, technology and competitiveness

The conference programme will cover a broad range of topics affecting cotton production, processing and textile manufacturing.

A technical seminar will examine climate-resilient cotton varieties, while other sessions will address strategies to encourage farmers to grow cotton and regulatory developments affecting the cotton and textile sectors.

Technology, quality and competitiveness in modern textile manufacturing will form another central part of the programme, alongside reports from the ICAC Secretariat.

Further discussions will explore regional cooperation and investment opportunities, sustainable and circular textile systems, digital solutions for farmers, risk management in cotton trade and logistics, and changing consumer trends influencing global cotton demand.

World Café focuses on environmental impact

The 2027 Plenary Meeting will again feature the World Café, an interactive discussion format designed to encourage direct participation and the exchange of ideas among attendees.

Under the theme “Reducing Environmental Impact Across the Cotton Value Chain”, participants will discuss approaches to improving environmental performance throughout cotton production and textile processing.

Technical tour of Egypt's cotton industry

Following the conference, participants will have the opportunity to join a technical tour of Egyptian cotton research, production, processing and textile facilities.

The programme will also include a cultural visit in Alexandria, offering international delegates an opportunity to learn more about the host country's cotton industry and regional heritage.

Registration for the 84th ICAC Plenary Meeting is now open.

Global cotton production projected to outpace consumption, but risks remain

Global cotton production is projected to reach 26.2 million tonnes in the 2026/27 season, marginally outpacing estimated consumption of 25.9 million tonnes. However, early-season production risks — including weather volatility and pest pressures — could narrow that buffer as the crop progresses, according to the September 2026 issue of Cotton This Month, published by the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).
