Optimising ink usage without compromising output

Users can choose from five Ink Saving levels, ranging from approximately 10% ink reduction at Level 1 up to around 50% at Level 5, depending on the application and desired output quality. This approach helps reduce overall ink use while preserving colour fidelity, which is crucial for maintaining print quality and meeting client expectations.

Markus Jürgensen, owner of Germany-based Print and More, operates a Mimaki CJV200-130 and utilises the ink saving functionality to up the efficiency of the company’s print process. “We make good use of the ink-saving option, usually at level 3,” Markus comments. “At around 30% ink reduction, it works very well for us without any compromise to the quality.”

A streamlined workflow

Designed to integrate into RasterLink7 (Mimaki’s RIP software), the Ink Saving tool allows users to select from different levels of ink reduction, depending on the job requirements. Once selected, the setting can be applied without adding complexity to the production process – no extra steps or reconfigurations are required.

This level of integration supports day-to-day efficiency, particularly in environments with high print volumes or tight turnaround times, like Print and More where they often contend with producing a lot at short notice.

Sustainability as a practical outcome

Beyond the economic benefits, reducing ink consumption also contributes to more environmentally conscious printing. Using less ink leads to fewer ink cartridges being consumed and discarded, reducing both material waste and associated emissions. While not a complete sustainability solution on its own, it’s a step in the right direction for companies looking to make incremental changes.
