SA Dynamics receives Innovation Award

Making buildings and clothing completely sustainable in the future and thus protecting the climate - SA-Dynamics is making this a reality. Dr Sascha Schriever and Maximilian Mohr were honoured with the a Techtextil Innovation Award in the "New Technologies on Sustainability & Recycling" category on behalf of the SA-Dynamics team at Techtextil in Frankfurt am Main.

SA-Dynamcis' patent pending aerogel textiles made from renewable raw materials offer outstanding thermal insulation, are extremely light and completely biodegradable. With a team of two chemists, an aerospace engineer and an industrial engineer, SA-Dynamics has achieved a breakthrough that enables the economical production of flexible aerogel textiles. Maximilian Mohr, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) at SA-Dynamics, adds: "Our aim is to validate our material in applications and bring it to market with the support of our pilot customers from the construction and textile industries. In doing so, we want to make a significant contribution to climate protection and resource efficiency."

The Aachen-based start-up SA-Dynamics is made up of researchers from the Institute of Textile Technology (ITA) and the Institute of Industrial Furnace Construction and Heat Engineering (IOB) at RWTH Aachen University.

ITA postdoc Dr Leonie Beek is revolutionising oil filtration with a bionic textile

On various biological surfaces, oil is adsorbed from water surfaces and transported along the leaf. In her dissertation, ITA Postdoc Dr Leonie Beek transferred this effect to a technical textile using her Bionic Oil Absorber (BOA), which can remove up to 4 litres of diesel per hour from water at technological readiness level 4. For this development, Dr Beek was awarded the Paul Schlack Prize 2025 for her dissertation ‘Bionic textiles for oil-water separation modelled on superhydrophobic biological surfaces’ on 10 September 2025. The award ceremony took place during the opening event of the Dornbirn GFC Global Fiber Congress in Austria.

Drink coffee and learn about Industry 4.0 in a fun way – that's what ITA PhD student Rosario Othen has made possible with his digital espresso machine. Rosario equipped the Quickmill espresso machine with a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller, programmable pump, integrated scale and current measurement.

Successful trade fair appearance of the IVGT members

With a total of 38,000 visitors from 102 countries and 1,700 exhibitors, the 20th Techtextil 2024 from 23 to 26 April in Frankfurt am Main once again maintained its position as the world's largest trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens. The Industry Association for Finishing – Yarns – Fabrics – Technical Textiles also draws a positive conclusion about the course of the trade fair for its members.

Circular economy, sustainable and regional: Gebr. Otto has answers to the topics of Techtextil 2024

Techtextil, the most important trade fair of the year for Dietenheim-based yarn spinning mill Gebr Otto, came to an end last Friday, April 26. The company presented its products and reported on its latest developments at the BW-i joint stand: These include a concept for sustainable period underwear developed together with Kelheim Fibres, a yarn blend of cotton and native hemp and the collaboration with the recycling studio at ITA Augsburg. The Gebr. Otto trade fair team can draw a positive conclusion: numerous visitors on all days of the fair as well as orders for samples and new project inquiries to take home.
